peachy

Why aren't more things crazy colors? I guess it has something to do with evolution and survival of the fittest, but wouldn't it be nice if there were pink horses and green striped zebras and purple trees? What a lovely vision.

Kate MccGwire

oh. shit.
I keep finding such amazing stuff today. Kate MccGwire is a UK based sculptor who works with feathers. I have a great affinity for birds and actually have one tattooed on my right foot. This artwork made me feel like I'd gotten the wind knocked outta me.
I did an interview with Kate here.

pure genius. nuff said.

The amazing Stylo video by The Gorillaz embed option has unfortunately been disabled, so watch it on YouTube.

Best of 2009!?

The homie who runs one of my fav blogs, The World's Best Ever, included me in his Best of 2009 Artorialust feature (which he dubs 'hot chicks at art openings') That's pretty effin sweet. Yes, I'm indulging in a vanity moment. But really, all the other girls are actually very beautiful so it's an honor to be included in a Best Of list.

The Eulogy: The Notorious B.I.G. featuring Jay-Z & Nas

The Notorious B.I.G. featuring Jay-Z & Nas - The Eulogy by Hypetrak
Oh yeah, more tunage. tight.

Tunage

The past few days I have been exclusively listening to: Taken By Trees (who has the prettiest Myspace page I think I've ever seen. My Boys is my fav; a cover of Animal Collective's My Girls), Broken Bells (just.so.good.), and new Gorillaz (still). Definitely helping me get through this week.

brush it off

a doll's world

When I was a little girl, I was in love with doll houses. My mom never bought me a real one, so I made my own out of old shoe boxes, paper, and other found items. I have very vivid memories of crafting a multi-tired dollcondo (it was far bigger than a simple house!) for months, if not a few years. I mean, I got serious: I straight up sat for hours building mini tables, chairs, beds, and even dressers with working drawers...all out of index cards.
That handcrafted world was my pride, my joy, all mine. I came across this image today and it instantly conjured images of my childhood interest. Mine definitely didn't look so professional and polished, but these type of tiny universes captured my little mind for a long time.
I remember tearing it all down one day when I finally decided that I was too grown up for a silly handmade dollhouse.

Mellow Yellow

Described as "A charming piece of the literary past,” this typewriter has become the focal point of my desire for the past day.
I do not think that stepping into a time machine and planting myself in a park meadow with a vintage typewriter for the sole purpose of composing letters to loved ones and foreign friends is fantastical one bit.

Frolicking at Plastic Beach

I have two obsessions for the week that were fully fostered this Monday: the new Gorillaz album, Plastic beach, and the forthcoming Alice In Wonderland film by Tim Burton.
Am I becoming one of those people obsessed with animated shit? I sure hope not, but both these new releases feature some of the sickest animation I've seen in a while.
Anyways, I've written extensively on both album and film already, but here's my review of Plastic Beach after finally hearing the whole thing today.
