She's A Smooth Operator: New Sade

Call me a middle-aged woman but I love Sade, or as I like to call her: 'Shaaw-daaay!' Therefore, I'm super hyped to hear that after almost a decade away from the main stage, singer Sade will return with a new album in two weeks, Soldier of Love. yesss.

I totally forgot to say that my friend started a fun lil blog where she asks people to write about stuff they want back. She posted one from me last week. I added a bit of embellishment for the fun of writing for mine, but there are a few other pretty entertaining ones up.

Gregory Euclide is fresh

I honestly do not think I have ever been so frustrated by the failings of a 2D image to represent 3D works. Greg Euclide's work is that good. This was confirmed when I (finally) saw a weighty collection of his artwork at this year's Scope Fair during Art Basel in Miami. Shit was dope and he's got such an intelligent message behind each and every piece of each piece.
"Mindful" was his term choice when I asked him one word to describe his work.

Who's With Me?

You know you wanna party with this guy in the Indian desert. At least, it sounds like a dream to me.

Be reasonable

“A rose shattered and he picked up one of the petals, bruised it between his thumb and forefinger, and put it in his mouth.”

Carson McCullers' The Jockey is this month's fiction podcast pick, which also made this dreary Monday a bit more manageable.

nuther one

ah shit. another great flickr find. this set by Marie Edwards. Not only do her photos make me want to take even more photos, but they make me want to explore more (well, what doesn't). overall, great inspiration. could get lost for hours here.

Two of my favorite things...

I was having a very mundane Friday morning until I found out that Camille Rose Garcia had been asked to reinterpret Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. so very very sweet. Two of my favorites together: Camille and this wonderful book! Oh and Tim Burton's modern version of the film is coming in March...in 3D! Love it.

color

I like this photo because it could have been taken in so very many places all over the world. I miss photography. I recently (finally) got a Holga that I have been experimenting with, but I won't have time to develop my own film, which kinda takes the real fun out of it. But it's still great to have a lighter camera to tote around, preserving interesting sights.

eat

I definitely made pizza last night. Surprisingly satisfying to make and quite tasty. One was covered in veggies and the other had steak on it for the meat eaters. cornmeal crust... yum.

"Everything."

wahoo

yayeah it is definitely 2010. I never get too caught up in new year excitement, cus usually a new year just signals there are two new digits I will habitually forget in the date for two weeks and look stupid at work. However, this year is a lil bit different.

I'll tell you why: shit sucks a lot right now for a ton of people. While this has been distressing to see and hear about, it's also a time of tremendous opportunity for folks that have not completely figured out who they are, what they want, and how that's all gonna come together.

I have a lot of excitement and plans for this new decade and quite frankly, I know it's gonna rock. because I shall make it so.

I've been asking people about their resolutions. Things they want to change, and why. I've also been doing a lot of reading (well, mostly neuropsych stuff) and it's simply scintillating how much we control within our own lives if you make sure to exercise your brain the way you would a body. I have a few shifts (not resolutions) that I have started making in my life and it's great.

Here's to a new year. It may just be the best one yet.
