If Tiny Toons Characters Drank...
If splitting one beer between three of my friends made me grow facial hair, start dressing like a bum, steal a cop car, and eventually die, I’d probably be scared shitless of drinking too. Guess the Tiny Toons’ creators thought it might be a bit too intense to air?

B2B 2009.
Weekend Recap: My cousin's wedding with tiniest tacos ever!
One of my all-time bestest cousins got married this weekend in SF. I'm so happy for him, as his last wife turned out to be a bit of a skank. A beautiful experience.
After the church part, we had a yummy reception at The St Regis. I think my favorite part were these itsy tacos! and soo tasty too. Cute and yummy- just perfect.
After the actual ceremony, I came across a store with literally hundreds of chandeliers...so rad. This was my favorite (although I took about a bajillion photos to sent to Natalia Fabia as inspiration!)

Flossy.
I love my friends. Especially when they make ridiculously awesome stop motion videos with cupie dolls and sparkly cotton balls. How glamorous.

Ad Control x Hank Willis Thomas

Could this be any truer!?! Jesus, I think I just fell in love with Hank Willis Thomas, or rather his artwork. Which is incredible and soo up my alley.
I need to write something about this guy.
ok, so maybe I will now, just a little:
My favorite series of his is The B(r)anded series, which obviously explores the detrimental effects of advertising. He adds a deeper twist in that he pinpoints the inherent racism in so much of the ads we ingest daily, minute by minute.
Hank writes, "Much of the work focuses on the use of the African American male body in advertisements. I am interested in the connection between this body type and the cotton and slave trade industries that brought this country so much wealth. In 'NBA Trade' I use the NBA logo and a slave auction poster to draw a comparison between the way the black male body was traded then (i.e. on the slave auction block) and now (disproportionately popular in the popular sports drafts)."
uuuhhh genius. And what makes it so genius is that any slightly sociologically aware individual could pick up on the parallel on their own, but Hank does so with a combined shot to the heart and mind using a single, meaning-packed image. It's harder than it looks and I'm now going to follow this guy's work more closely. In the meantime, here are a few of my favorite pieces from The B(r)anded series:

Nostalgia.

Just discovered Katie Baum's photography. I really like it (plus we have the same name!) Love her "Chasing Memory" series. Maybe because I've been feeling nostalgic too.
Youth truly is wasted on the young.
Chris Burch
Great Studio Visit with Christopher Burch. Love what he has to say. So subtle, yet informed. He makes me calm for some reason.
